Favorite Books Discussion

We can use this blog post to discuss our favorite books! I will be updating this site regularly. In our last discussion before the break we reflected upon all the books we've read in and out of Walking Book Club. We agreed that some of our WBC favorites were: The Thirteenth Tale, Mennonite in a little Black Dress, The Art of Racing in the Rain, Mudbound and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

See the comments link to see everyone's favorite book that they shared at the meeting. I have put a number of these books on my hloiday break reading list!

Enjoy!

In our last meeting we shared our "Favorite" books. We had a great time sharing our picks and we all have new ideas for reading over the break.

Kate- Kate in a non-fiction chick like me and I liked that she suggested Gladwell's "Outliers" and "The Tipping Point". Her favorite fiction book was "The Door in the Wall", by Marguerite de Angeli because it was inspiring.

Jennifer suggested listening to "The Help", by Kathryn Stockett. She liked the varied voices in the book and said that she would read it again if the group wanted to.

Nancy brought 2 books by Mitch Albom; "Tuesdays with Morrie” and "The Five People You Meet in Heaven". She found them to be inspirational and significant. She's right!

Sam likes anything Pat Conroy, his favorites are; Prince of Tides, Beach music (single dad raising his daughter overseas) and Lords of Discipline.

Ruth gave us the always relevant "To Kill a Mockingbird".
Thanks for the reminder!

I brought "Pope Joan" by Donna Woolfolk Cross Pope Joan is a tale of a woman who gave up everything, even her very name, for the sake of knowledge- what’s not to LOVE about that? I couldn't help but bring up favorite nonfiction "Gang Leader for a Day" a rogue sociologist takes to the streets, by Sudhir Venkatesh.

I saved Valerie's for last because we had our deepest discussions about her choice: "Final Gifts" understanding the special awareness, needs, and communications of the dying. Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley.
This book is a series of special personal stories that are told by two hospice nurses and their various experiences of the patents they have assisted in the last days. The book helps those who are preparing for death or the death of a loved one and brings awareness to a process we are so often ill prepared for. A MUST read!

Please share your favorites!!!!

I was wondering what our walkers are reading now that you have time to read more of your own picks?

I am reading:
The Alchemy of Voice: transform and enrich your life through the power of your voice / Stewart Pearce.
Main Library Adult New Nonfiction 808.51 Pearce

Your voice is your identity in sound. It is far more than just a means with which to communicate your thoughts and feelings; it is the expression of your integrity and individuality in the world!

It is interesting so far!

Reading Many lives, Many Masters by Brian L. Weiss.

For the second time....or third?

Reading Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman.

What are you reading while wrapping, shopping, baking and (don't forget) walking?
