"Some carried CS or tear gas grenades. Some carried white phosphorus grenades. They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible things they carried."

Sorry I missed you guys this week, but you wouldn't want to be around me. Cough, Cough, Sniff, Sniff... what do we think of the girl that was smuggled in... did it really happen? And if it did...did she really go 'nam' native?
Jennifer was asking that same question! We decided that even if it wasn't true...it was true; because the strangest stories were true and the simple stories were just to give perspective about the average in relation to the horrific. We also discussed the comment about the illusion of the feminine ideal and how, actually, we are all human and susceptible to the same behaviors given the extreme circumstances that war would bring. Sam remarked that war was similar to marriage....Thanks Sam!
"There were no thoughts about killing. The grenade was to make him go away-just evaporate-and I leaned back and felt my mind go empty and then felt it fill up again. I had already thrown the grenade before telling myself to throw it."
Hello Walkers and Talkers, Due to the uncertain weather conditions we have decided, with much regret, to cancel book club for this Wednesday 2-2-11! The library may close early on Tuesday and may open late or not at all on Wednesday. I suppose if the weather misses us altogether that we could still meet Wed nite, but since that probably won't happen to be safe we will not meet. Stay safe and warm and Danielle and I will miss you all. I finished the book last week and am anxious to start "Sarah's Key".
